A week ago, I was particpating to the shooting of a music video for the band "Losers", a british independent music band (for those who don't know them here is their website : losersband.co.uk).
They are releasing their new album "And So We Shall Never Part", and needed to shoot a music video for one of the songs : "Turn Around".
It's my beautiful friend Flavia who invited me to join the project along with one of her friends, Ayesha (who I hope I 'll get to know better next time I see her...).
As it's said in the title of the song, we would have to do a lot of spinning. The lady directing the project, Rosie Jones and the costume maker and make up artist, Robin Harvey had created for us beautiful characters of spinning sparkly demon ladies for the three of us.
Il y a une semaine, j'ai participé au tournage d'un vidéo clip pour le groupe "Losers", un groupe de musique indépendante anglais (pour ceux qui ne les connaissent pas voilà leur site : losersband.co.uk).
Il vont bientôt sortir leur nouvel album "And So We Shall Never Part", et ils avaient besoin de tourner un clip vidéo pour une des chansons de l'album : "Turn Around".
C'est ma merveilleuse amie Flavia qui m'a invité à joindre le projet, ainsi que son amie Ayesha (dont j'espère pouvoir faire plus ample connaissance la prochaine fois que je la verrais...).
Comme c'est dit dans le titre de la chanson, on allait devoir tourner. La jeune femme dirigeant le projet, Rosie Jones et le costumier/maquilleur, Robin Harvey, avaient créés de magnifique démones tournantes pleines de paillettes pour nous trois.
And in the center of this demon ladies, the marvelous Malik dressed as a sparkly creepy dervish. I loved his make up so much, it was made by Robin and just woaw !
Et au milieu de ces splendide démones était l'incroyable Malik travestit en un effrayant et envoutant dervish (plein de paillette aussi). J'ai adoré son maquillage, c'était de Robin et tout simplement woaw !
We met one day before to rehearse our little spinning routine and mostly rehearse the spinning itself. They wanted us to spin like the turkish dervishes. We watched a video of a dervish spinning performance to see how they're doing. Well, that looks easy when they're doing it but for sure it is not. The first time we tried it I did the stupid thing to look on the floor while I was slowing down. Soooo Wrong. It was like I got sucked by the floor and while the world was still spinning I was stuck in the ground waiting for it to stop turning around ( ha ha ...).
On s'est retrouvé un jour avant pour répéter notre petite chorégraphie de démons tournants et surtout répéter la manière de tourner en elle même. Ils voulaient que nous tournions comme les derviches turque. Nous avons regardé une vidéo sur les derviches pour voir comment ils font. Et bien, ça à l'air facile comme ça mais ça ne l'est pas du tout. La première fois que nous avons essayé, j'ai fait la bêtise de regarder le sol pendant que je ralentissais. Stupide ! C'est comme si le sol m'avait aspirée et je me suis retrouver par terre à attendre que la terre arrête de tourner.
On the day of the shooting, I arrived a bit early to do some extra work. At some point of the video the dervish demons would fall on the ground but in slow motion, so they needed one of the girls and Malik to come do some falling. It was a bit frightening to fall on the back but funny after all.
When I arrived they were filming the first part of the clip which was one of the guys from the band dressed as a sparkly sad clown playing piano. While they were still busy with this, Robin got me dressed. I had to put on some atrociously long red nails (not really easy for lunch later to eat with these on).
Puis le jour du tournage, je suis arrivée un peu en avance pour un peu d'extra. Ils avaient prévus des plans avec le dervish et les démones tombant sur le sol au ralenti, donc ils avaient besoin d'une de nous trois et de Malik pour tomber un peu. C'était un tantinet effrayant de tomber sur le dos mais à la fin bien rigolo.
Quand je suis arrivée, ils étaient encore occupés à filmer un des membres du groupe habillé en clown triste plein de paillette et jouant au piano. Pendant ce temps Robin m'a préparé. Il m'a posé d'horriblement long faux ongles rouges (vraiment pas pratique pour manger le déjeuner plus tard).
Then the girls (Flavia and Ayesha) arrived, they got prepared and we could start shooting our scenes together. A first part with our little routine with Malik added in the middle. Malik had a really cool shooting, holding a mirror and spinning on an office chair so he would stay fixed for the camera following him on a close up. During this, we were mostly doing the background.
After that we had a huge lunch. They really took great care of everybody. There was so many different dishes and a delicious apple crumble. Too bad I didn't take any picture of this fiest...Anyway, thanks a lot for it !!
To finish our session (and with our stomach full), we moved on the dervish spinning. We did 4 shots of it, the two last one saved for the grand final. Some of the guys were up on the lower balcony with bags full of red ticker-tape they would throw in the air while we were spinning. It was magic. I felt like if I was spinning in one of this music box snow ball ( you know the one you shake and some fake snow floats in the ball...)
After that it was finished for us. They still had to shoot the "trash" part of the music video with a dominatrix and her two human sex toys (I can't remember the word they used to call them). The dominatrix was Zahara and her too had a beautiful costume and make up by Robin. She had some aerial part on the hoop. But I left when they were just starting to shoot it. I was a bit tired to be honest.
Puis les filles sont arrivées (Flavia et Ayesha), elles se sont préparées et nous avons commencés à tourner nos scènes ensemble. En premier, nous avions notre petite chorégraphie avec Malik au milieu. Il avait un super moment où il tenait un mirroir et était assis sur un fauteuil de bureau pour qu'il soit fixe et que la caméra puisse le suivre en close-up. Pendant ce temps nous étions derrière à faire la deuxième partie de notre chorégraphie.
Après tout ça nous avons eu un énorme déjeuner, ils se sont tellement bien occupé de nous. Il y avait tellement de plats et un délicieux crumble aux pommes. C'est bête que je n'ai pas pris de photo de ce festin...en tout cas merci beaucoup !
Pour finir notre session (et avec l'estomac plein), nous sommes passé au derviches tournant. Nous en avons tourner quatre différentes versions. Les deux dernières réservés pour le grand final. Quelques uns des gens présent sur le tournage étaient sur la mezzanine avec des sacs pleins de confetti rouge qu'ils laissaient en l'air pendant que nous tournions. C'était magique. J'avais l'impression d'être dans une boîte à musique boule de neige (tu sais, une de celle qu'on renverse et il y a de la fausse neige tout autour...)
Quand on en a fini de jouer les derviches, c'était fini pour nous. Mais l'équipe de tournage avait encore a filmer la partie "trash" du clip avec une dominatrice et ses "human sex toys" (je ne peux plus me rappeler le mots qu'ils ont utilisé pour ceux là...). La dominatrice était Zahara et elle aussi avait un magnifique costume et un magnifique maquillage par Robin. Plus tard elle avait une scène où elle faisait du cerceau aérien. Mais je suis partie quand ils commençaient sont tournage. Je dois avouer que j'étais un peu fatigué.

Pour conclure, c'était vraiment super de travailler avec cette merveilleuse équipe et j'espère bien avoir d'autres chances de travailler (ou non) avec eux.
